Kool-Aid Punch

From "Our Family Recipes", the Princess Margaret Home & School Association cookbook. This one was submitted by Renai Chamerlain. It can be made with sugar-free ingredients to make a great diabetes friendly party, or any-time drink.

2 L Ginger ale
2 L Sprite
1 L pineapple juice
2 L sherbet
1 package Kool-Aid crystals

Best to chill all liquid ingredients. Your sherbet could be either lime or key lime. Mix all ingredients together and serve.

Hot Chocolate Mix

From my friend Susan. This is an excellent alternative to higher priced brand name mixes.

1 L (4 cups) skim milk powder
180 mL (3/4 cup) unsweetened cocoa
375 mL (1 1/2 cups) sugar
15 mL (1 Tbsp) salt

Mix all ingredients together. For a smoother, finer mix powder, use a food processor or vegetable masher for mixing.

To serve: add 3 Tbsp hot chocolate mix to 1 cup boiling water.

Diabetic Hot Chocolate Mix

From my friend Susan. This is a smaller batch of the made-with-sugar version. It's a sweet treat for winter days or any time!

250 mL skim milk powder
45 mL unsweetened cocoa
90 mL Splenda, artificial sweetener
3 mL salt

Mix all ingredients together. For a finer mix, use a food processor or vegetable masher for mixing.

To serve, add 3 Tablespoons mix to 1 cup (250 mL) boiling water.

Mom's Green Iced Tea

For a cool, refreshing, different iced tea try this:

Place 5 Celestial Seasonings (Honey Lemon Ginseng) Green Tea bags in a 1 gallon/ 4L icecream pail or jar.

Pour 4 cups boiling water over bags and let steep... til you remember you're letting them steep. (at least 10 minutes, as long as an hour or so)

Fill container with cold water.

Remove tea bags and add 1/2 cup Splenda artificial sweetener, stirring to dissolve.

Pour over ice (if desired) to serve.
